Second Language Back

At Pineview we believe that learning and speaking a second language is important especially in our multicultural community.  Therefore, our preschoolers receive Spanish lessons weekly as part of the curriculum.  Even children whose heritage is of Spanish origins and who may speak it at home often do not develop the appropriate skills.  Our objective is to develop skills in conversational Spanish, students learn and practice letters, numbers and shapes in order to enhance recognition.

The teacher speaks only in Spanish during the lesson and uses a variety of materials to motivate and instruct the children.  Traditional songs, games, rhymes, movement activities and story books provide the core of the lesson which is based on thematic units.  The primary goal is the acquisition of a basic, age appropriate Spanish vocabulary.
